The Estate Planning Council of San Bernardino County is pleased to welcome the Honorable Glen M. Reiser (Ret.) to present at the October virutual meeting.
Nearly 30 years ago to the day, the First District Court of Appeal revolutionized the law of trusts in California by authorizing assets on death to be deemed held in trust, despite never having title to the particular asset(s) fully perfected. Over the interim three decades, the Heggstad authorization has been used, and sometimes misused, to avoid assets from being subjected to the delays and scrutiny of probate. This presentation will address the current status of the Heggstad doctrine and the status of the Heggstads themselves, including the Inland Empire's own Glen Heggstad.
